My review of the Suncast (formerly N0-CRANK) self powered crank-less garden hose reel which is water powered and houses 100 feet of garden hose is in one word, amazing! N0-CRANK was also sold under the Reel Smart name and was manufactured by Hydro Industries but is now sold by Suncast.
I purchased the automatic hose reel for $74.95 at Lowe’s but the price is now $98. It’s a little pricey for a hose reel but this is without a doubt the best hose reel and it’s well worth it. Costco sells the RSW125 which holds 125′ of hose for $79.99. See all the Suncast models.
Before buying it, I was somewhat skeptical about its ability to reel in 100 feet of heavy garden hose filled with water, but the thought of an automatic garden hose reel was too tempting not to try it.
It took approximately 2 minutes to set it up. You simply feed your garden hose through the alignment guide and connect the hose to the supply nozzle on the hose reel. On the other end of the hose near the spray nozzle, you place a grommet over the hose (this is the only part which requires a tool, which is a Phillips screwdriver). You then connect a supplied hose to your water faucet, connect a drain hose to the drain plug on the side of the hose reel, and you’re done.
After setting up, the hose is already fully extended outside of the automatic hose reel cabinet, so the first thing I tried is to reel the hose in. To reel the hose in, all you do is slide a lever and the hose starts being pulled in. I was absolutely amazed. The machine has absolutely no problem pulling the hose in.
To pull the hose out, you simply slide the lever in the other direction to the point marked “Rest”. The hose pulls out effortlessly.
Additionally, this machine has an automatic hose guide which is just as important as its water powered feature. The hose guide automatically goes back and forth while the hose is pulled out or recoiled. This allows the hose to coil up evenly on the reel every time so the hose does not kink; it always fits neatly inside the cabinet; and the hose is always easy to pull out.
You can watch a video showing how the Suncast water powered hose reel pulls in a garden hose and straightens out kinks in the hose.
The Suncast self powered crankless garden hose reel does not use electricity or batteries and uses only water to power the mechanism. It uses only the water which is already hooked up to the hose.
I have a water faucet in my garage and I love my automatic hose reel so much that I’m buying another one today to mount on the wall in my garage and another one as a gift for my father on Father’s Day.
The company makes several different styles of water powered hose reels and crank hose reels. The only difference is the style of the cabinet and some features. The water power mechanism is the same on all of their self powered, water powered crank-less garden hose reels.
